On October, Nguyen Tan Dung, the Vietnamese Price Minister began to visit India. Indian media reported that India may receive invitation of Vietnam to join in oil exploitation in the South China Sea. China concerned about that. For this, Chinese exports expressed that China was always supporting to exploit oil resources in the South China Sea jointly. On oil exploitation, Vietnam and India should consult with China. For improving relationship between China and Vietnam, Vietnam should show more sincerities.
Pradhan, the Secretary of Indian Oil Ministry said, “Both India and Vietnam are expecting to enhance cooperation in oil field.” It is reported that both two sides may reach an oil exploitation contract during Nguyen Tan Dung, the Vietnamese Price Minister visiting India to deepen bilateral economic relationships. In last November, Vietnam provided 5 oilfields to India to choose. India decided to exploit among of 2 or 3 oilfields. Vietnam also expects to launch more cooperations with India in security, defense and other fields, and signed some contracts.
Deccan Chronicle reported, “India may receive invitation about the South China Sea.” Before, Vietnamese Prime Minister arriving, personages of Indian government implied that India was willing to accept Vietnamese invitation, even China showed its dissatisfaction with that. On October 24, Akbaruddin, the spokesman of Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Vietnam has already provided some oil fields in the South China Sea. We are inspecting. If those oilfields are profitable, we will take into consideration further. The relationship between India and Vietnam does not depend on other countries.
Since 1998, India has already begun to get involved in oil exploitation in the South China Sea, and accept an oilfield from Vietnam then. India received exploration right of another two oilfields in 2006. Both of two oilfields were located at the region belonging to Chinese sovereignty. India decided to quit from an oilfield when found no oil there. However, India kept another oilfield, which was considered as a measure that preserved its strategic interests in the region.
