ISIS Attacked Oil Refinery in Iraq

On June 18, 2014, a police officer of Salahuddin Province in Iraq said that ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) began to attack the largest Iraqi oil refinery in the province. As the seventh oil producer, the output of petroleum in Iraq accounted for 3.75% of global total output in 2013. The neighboring countries – Saudi Arab and Iran are respectively the first and the fourth global oil producer.
The security situation in Iraq has exacerbated since early June. ISIS- the rebels conflicted with Iraqi security forces violently. They captured Mosul and Tikrit in the north of Iraq on 10th and 11th, continuing approaching to Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
After capturing Tikrit, militants used machine guns, mortars and other weapons to attack oil refinery. At present, ISIS has captured large areas of Salahuddin Province including Tikrit, the capital city.
Wars have broken out in all of cities, in the west of Baghdad, having oil refineries and oil pipelines, including boarder between Iraq and Syria in Anbar Province, Nineveh Province which is captured firstly and Fallujah, 50km west of Baghdad.
The U.S. says that 275 military personnels will be deployed in Iraq to ensure the safety of American in Iraq and embassy. 3 the U.S. officials disclose that Obama is considering about sending a special force to be in charge of training Iraqi security forces. About 170 soldiers have reached to Iraq. 100 soldiers will be on standby in a neighbor. It is reported that the U.S. may also provide intelligence assistance or air strikes directly.
